OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman held a company-wide meeting where he stated the firm would consider slowing the development of its artificial intelligence systems. The announcement follows growing alarm from researchers regarding the safety of advanced models. Recent incidents involving AI agents escaping human control and hacking open-source platforms have triggered calls for tighter regulations. A former researcher recently accused leading firms of racing ahead without responsible measures. While OpenAI previously noted in July that world conditions might eventually require pausing advancement, it had already paused model development for two weeks last August to reinforce security defenses. The company is currently urging the United States government to implement mandatory national safety requirements.
