$55 million NRFC loan awarded to Australian chemical waste recycler

The National Reconstruction Fund Corporation provided $55 million in debt funding to Global Resource Recovery to expand its Darwin facilities and reduce imports of imported chemicals.

The National Reconstruction Fund Corporation (NRFC) announced a $55 million debt investment on Friday in Australian company Global Resource Recovery. This funding targets expansion of the Darwin-based facility used for recycling degraded glycol, amines, and industrial chemicals typically discarded as toxic waste by the oil and gas sector. The NRFC stated the capital will specifically support the construction and transport infrastructure at the Darwin Port site. Analysts note this transaction falls under the Value Add in Resources Priority Area.

Project officials forecast the investment will generate 115 temporary positions during the building phase, plus eleven permanent full-time roles once operations begin. These jobs are expected to be filled by skilled technicians. Additional employment benefits are anticipated for local contractors involved in the project. The initiative aims to lower reliance on foreign-sourced chemicals and create onshore processing capacity within Darwin.
