Thailand Approves THB3.54 Billion for AI and Automation Projects

The Thai government approved 55 new projects under a national fund, investing THB3.54 billion to boost artificial intelligence and automation in domestic businesses.

Thailand officially approved 55 new investment projects within its National Competitiveness Enhancement Fund. The latest round focuses on Business Transformation, covering 48 initiatives that include AI, automation, digital technology, research and development, and green industry upgrades. The Business Transformation segment alone receives THB3.54 billion in funding, with an additional THB1.663 billion in support mechanisms. This round includes seven Skill Bridge projects designed to develop the workforce required for emerging industries. Over the last year, 108 projects have received support totaling THB4.825 billion, expecting to create approximately 1,500 jobs and provide knowledge transfer to over 3,800 supply-chain businesses. Officials stated the initiative targets a specific weakness: large capital inflows into advanced sectors have not previously generated sufficient productivity gains for Thai small and medium enterprises. Data indicates only around 12% of Thai companies currently utilize AI, and the country lacks roughly 80,000 artificial intelligence professionals.
