UK Inflation Stands at 3.4% in August, Matching July Figures

British inflation remained steady at 3.4% year-over-year in August as consumer prices rose by 0.4%. Major US stock indices ended the week higher despite rising inflation data and falling oil prices.

UK inflation held steady at 3.4% on a year-over-year basis in August, according to data released by the Office for National Statistics under the Ministry of Labour. Consumer prices increased by 0.4% in August after rising slightly by 0.1% in July. Jo Saluzzi, co-founder and president of Times Trading, noted that while these figures remain stubborn, they align with expectations and may not satisfy optimists predicting a market rise or pessimists expecting a decline. Meanwhile, major US stock indices climbed toward a higher close on Friday. Investors gained confidence as oil prices fell during the week, supporting market sentiment even as rising August inflation slowed the recovery pace.
