U.S. Futures Rally As Oil Prices Drop Ahead of Inflation Data
Stock market indices climbed on Friday as falling oil prices offset concerns over accelerating August inflation.
U.S. stock futures rose on Friday, aiming to finish the volatile week higher despite recent data showing a pick-up in the consumer price index (CPI). The CPI increased by 0.4 percent last month compared to a slight 0.1 percent rise in July. On an annual basis, the inflation rate hit 3.4 percent in August, matching the figure recorded in July. This stability in inflation numbers occurred while oil prices retreated earlier in the week. Falling crude prices provided support for investor sentiment during the session. Joe Salozzi, a partner and co-CEO at Thymes Trading, noted that these figures remain stubborn. He added that his reading aligns with expectations but may disappoint both optimists anticipating market rises and pessimists forecasting declines. Consequently, uncertainty regarding the future path of interest rates remains a central theme for traders analyzing the day's movement.
