Saudi Arabia Approves National War Risks Insurance Pool for Cargo and Vessels

The Saudi Cabinet has authorized a new insurance framework designed to protect trade against geopolitical risks.

Saudi Arabia has approved the creation of a national insurance mechanism called the Saudi War Risks Insurance Pool for Cargo and Vessels. Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan stated after the decision that this is a specialized domestic pool intended to ensure the continuity of goods flow. The goal is to address risks where cargo or vessels become too costly or difficult to insure, potentially halting trade before ports close. This move aims to build local insurance capacity so global insurers can provide adequate coverage for war-related risks. Saudi Arabia views this initiative as crucial for maintaining its competitiveness as a trade and logistics hub.
