Supreme Court Chief Gilmar Mendes Demands Joint Trial of Federal Prosecutor's Case and Master Bank Proceedings

Gilmar Mendes, the head of the Supreme Federal Court, sent a formal letter requesting that President Edson Fachin take over the reporting for a complex set of legal matters. He sought to have two separate cases heard together in the plenary session: the prosecution against André Mendonça regarding alleged bias in investigating Banco Master, and the proceedings surrounding conversations between banker Daniel Vorcaro and Minister Alexandre de Moraes. Mendes stated that these cases share common factual bases and argued that fragmented procedures create inconsistent decisions and procedural chaos. He expressed serious doubts about whether the Federal Police report on the Vorcaro-Moraes conversations was ready for judgment. Additionally, he requested that preliminary issues, including a request by Prosecutor General Paulo Gonet to dismiss the case, be addressed before examining the merits of the charges.
