Brazil's 7 September Parade Contract Rises to R$ 5.74 Million in 2026

The government finalized a contract worth R$ 5.74 million for the 2026 Independence Day parade, marking a 33.2% increase from the previous year's cost.

Brazilian authorities signed a new contract to organize the September 7th Independence Day parade in Brasília at a cost of R$ 5.74 million. This figure represents a 33.2% increase compared to the 2025 agreement and adds R$ 1.43 million to the expense. The 2026 budget was set nominally without inflation adjustment. Officials emphasized specific security measures to distinguish public facilities from campaign sites related to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's re-election bid. The ceremony took place on September 7th in the Esplanada dos Ministrios. The schedule featured three main themes: national sovereignty, the fight against femicide, and support for the 2027 Women's World Cup. Public school students opened the procession, followed by military and police troops passing through the esplanade.
