Barge owner denies Nembe E&P involvement in Bayelsa oil spill
The barge owner involved in a recent oil spill in the Nembe Creek area stated that neither his company nor Nembe Exploration played any role in the incident.
Ebikeme Sokere, chief executive of Fazal Environmental Company, confirmed during an interview on Wednesday that his vessel did not participate in operations for Nembe Exploration and Production Limited or Aiteo Eastern E&P Company. He described the event as a minor accident occurring when his moving barge struck debris in the water near the Nembe Creek Trunk Line. Sokere emphasized that the vessel belonged exclusively to his company, asserting no connection existed between the boat and any Nembe assets. He questioned why stakeholders felt it necessary to draw attention to what he termed an unnecessary noise surrounding the incident. Sokere stated the event was not a serious matter compared to major issues and offered to meet with representatives from Aiteo or other groups to explain the details of the accident.
