Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday that Kyiv has prepared concrete proposals and remains ready to negotiate with the Russian government. In a post on social media X following a meeting with special US envoys, Zelensky claimed his team has initiated direct contact with the Russian side. He proposed suspending aerial attacks on Moscow for several days, in exchange for Russia taking equivalent measures regarding Kiev. Zelensky described these terms as realistic and necessary to achieve a dignified post-war peace.
Conversely, Russian President Vladimir Putin met recently with US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner at the Kremlin. These discussions lasted over three hours behind closed doors. A Kremlin spokesperson characterized the meetings as highly useful, constructive, and frank. Officials stated Moscow provided a comprehensive assessment of the battlefield situation but noted the talks did not focus exclusively on the invasion. The Russians discussed potential large-scale joint projects beneficial to both nations.
The two positions reflect divergent timelines regarding active conflict. While Russia's current engagement targets economic cooperation and strategic reviews, Ukraine insists its peace plan includes specific de-escalation conditions immediately. Both sides maintain that their respective offers require substantive coordination from their counterparts.
