Saudi renewable capacity surges 88% to 12,313 gigawatts by end of 2025
Saudi Arabia expanded its renewable energy sector significantly in 2025, with operating capacity jumping 88%. Meanwhile, peace talks between Russia and the US remain stalled while US officials warn war could last until 2027.
Saudi Arabia reported a sharp increase in renewable energy projects by the end of 2025. Operating capacity for these initiatives reached 12,313 gigawatts, up 88% from the previous year. Total investments in active projects exceeded 9.6 billion dollars according to official statistics. The government now has 15 operational renewable energy projects.
In separate geopolitical developments, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held a roughly hour-long phone call described as constructive by Kremlin officials. Trump emphasized ending the war in Ukraine quickly. However, US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff made no significant progress during weekend talks with Russia. European and American authorities now plan for conflict to extend into 2027 if negotiations fail.
The Trump administration also expressed profound concern over Ford Motor's partnership with Chinese battery provider CATL. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy wrote to CEO Jim Farley regarding supply chain risks associated with the agreement announced in 2023.
