U.S. Bank completes first live cross-border stablecoin payment on Stellar
The Minneapolis-based bank successfully processed a transaction involving its proprietary USBDC stablecoin between North American and European entities. This marks the debut of the fifth-largest U.S. commercial bank's blockchain integration.
U.S. Bank, headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has finalized a live cross-border payment utilizing its own proprietary USBDC stablecoin. The transaction occurred on the public Stellar network, moving funds between U.S. and European branches of the financial institution. During this pilot, the bank activated minting, redemption, freezing, and clawback capabilities while connecting these digital functions to traditional risk management and compliance systems. This trial validates the bank's internally developed Digital Asset Platform, which links tokenized assets to legacy banking infrastructure. Management confirmed the transaction took place on Wednesday. The firm has already established a dedicated Digital Assets and Money Movement unit in October 2025 to oversee stablecoin issuance and crypto custody. U.S. Bank reported it is currently exploring expanded applications such as cross-border treasury management and onchain collateral movement.
