Portugal opens negotiations between Air France-KLM and Lufthansa for TAP sale
The Portuguese government has initiated talks with two airline groups bidding to acquire 44.5% of TAP Air Portugal after receiving a report on their binding offers.
Minister António Leitão Amaro announced the government will open negotiations with Air France-KLM and Lufthansa regarding the privatization of TAP Air Portugal. Both groups submitted binding offers for 44.5% of the airline on July 29. Parpública, the entity managing state stakes, delivered its assessment report to the government on September 1. Leitão Amaro stated that while the bids differed in structure, their overall valuation was very close. He concluded this similarity justifies further negotiations to secure improved proposals. The aim is to identify a single bidder for the final negotiation phase. This process, relaunched by President Luís Montenegro's administration in 2025, allows the state to move toward selling a controlling stake.
