Namibia Govt Denies Final Deal on National Airline with Ethiopian Airlines

The Namibian government rejected a leaked document as official policy, insisting no binding agreement exists despite confirming Ethiopian Airlines is engaged in developing the national carrier.

The Namibian Ministry of Works and Transport stated it does not recognize a leaked document regarding the proposed establishment of Namibia Air. Jonas Sheelongo, Executive Director at the ministry, declared that no binding agreement has been reached with Ethiopian Airlines. He emphasized that suggestions representing a concluded government policy or decision are incorrect. While the ministry insists on distancing itself from the circulating record, it confirmed Ethiopian Airlines is being engaged to develop the new national carrier. Officials warned the project must not repeat the financial mistakes that led to the closure of Air Namibia. The government aims to ensure these lessons inform the final carrier model to support economic growth and connectivity.
