Kenya to create 10,000 jobs in Sh12 billion Mombasa industrial zone
The Kenyan government signed an agreement to build a $146 million Special Economic Zone in Mombasa that will generate 10,000 positions.
Kenya signed a tripartite agreement on Wednesday to develop a special economic zone in Mombasa intended to create 10,000 jobs in the first phase. The Sh12 billion project covers 535 acres of land in Jomvu and involves the County Government of Mombasa, Mombasa Free Zone Ltd, and DP World. President William Ruto oversaw the signing ceremony at State House. The agreement targets industries focused on manufacturing, processing, assembly, and value addition to allow production for export. President Ruto stated the initiative is key to shifting Kenya away from exporting raw commodities toward a production-based economy. He noted special economic zones support the bottom-up economic transformation agenda by connecting farmers and manufacturers to global supply chains.
