Osino Resources launches US$500 million gold mine project in Namibia's Karibib constituency
Construction of the Twin Hills mine is underway with 1,500 workers daily, aiming to create over 2,000 jobs and strain housing supplies in local towns.
Osino Resources has begun large-scale construction of the Twin Hills gold mine between Karibib and Omaruru in Namibia's southern region. The US$500 million development currently employs approximately 1,500 people on site daily, supported by more than 60 contractors. Werner Schuchmann, country director for Osino Resources, confirmed that work is proceeding on schedule with first gold production anticipated next year. Once operational, the project will hire at least 1,000 direct employees, with additional roles created for suppliers and businesses through a multiplier effect estimated at five to six times by industry leaders. This influx of workers is expected to move into Karibib, Omaruru, and Usakos, where rental costs remain relatively low compared to other areas. Local officials note that the sudden demand for accommodation in these three towns could alter housing availability and affordability. While residents welcome the potential for improved local economies and employment opportunities, community members also warn of challenges regarding land availability and rising rental prices resulting from increased population density.
