IEX shares rise 2% after electricity trading volume hits record high of 13,938 MUs in August 2026

Indian Energy Exchange shares climbed nearly 2% as monthly electricity traded volume reached a record 13,938 MUs. Government data shows India's energy consumption grew 12.85% year-on-year in the same period.

Shares of Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) gained approximately 2% on Friday, reaching an intraday high of Rs 121.63 on the National Stock Exchange. This stock movement followed a monthly electricity trading volume record of 13,938 MUs in August 2026. The volume represented a 20.2% increase compared to the same month last year. A government filing indicated that total power consumption reached 169.01 BUs in August 2026, marking 12.85% growth from the previous year's figures. This rise in demand drove buy bids in the Day-Ahead Market up by 61.7% year-on-year. Consequently, average market clearing prices increased significantly across both Day-Ahead and Real-Time Markets, which averaged Rs 4.88 per unit and Rs 4.41 per unit respectively compared to prior years. IEX recorded 5,517 MU volume in the Day-Ahead Market for August 2026 against 4,797 MUs in 2025. The Real-Time Electricity Market handled 5,565 MUs during August 2026, up from 5,029 MUs a year earlier.
