$99.49 per barrel: Brent crude closes up 1.6% as Iran strikes Jordan base

Oil prices surged to nearly $100 after Iranian Revolutionary Guards attacked US assets in the Gulf and a US base in Jordan, prompting Washington to vow continued pressure on tanker shipments.

Brent crude futures rose 1.57 per barrel, closing at $99.49, while West Texas Intermediate climbed to $94.63 after Iran escalated its conflict with Washington. Iranian Revolutionary Guards claimed responsibility for ballistic missile strikes on two US destroyers and a facility in Jordan's Al Azraq region, describing the event as retaliation for American naval raids on Iranian tankers. In response, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Tehran would face further losses to its oil supply capacity, citing specific destruction of five crude carriers by Central Command forces on September 8. Geopolitical tensions remained a primary factor keeping risk appetite in international markets subdued during Wednesday's trading session.
