Simultaneously, Canada implemented counter-tariffs effective Tuesday on approximately $20 billion worth of American products. These duties apply to categories including steel, aluminum, dairy, and agricultural equipment with rates ranging from 15% to 50%. The affected goods represent about 6% of US exports to Canada in the prior year. Trump posted a statement alleging Bombardier's revenue dependence on US buyers warrants a ban on their products. Bombardier maintained that its operations in America generate tens of thousands of jobs and relies on components manufactured in the United States across nearly 2,800 companies. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has suspended recent trade talks after US officials described them as a 'power play.' Market analysts note US stocks fell sharply due to combined concerns from Trump's threats against Bombardier, which trades nearly 7% lower on the Toronto Exchange, and rising global oil prices.
