Brazil service sector volume stable at 0.0% in July 2026, defying Reuters' 0.2% monthly forecast
The IBGE reported that Brazil's total service sector volume remained unchanged month-over-month in July 2026, while rising 0.9% year-over-year, contradicting expectations of a 0.2% increase.
The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) announced on Friday that the national service sector volume remained stable for July compared to June, registering a zero percentage change. This result contradicts the Reuters research forecast, which predicted a slight monthly increase of 0.2% and an annual rise of 1.1%. While no single activity drove a drop in total volume, four out of five sectors posted positive growth. The transport sector advanced by 0.4%, recovering from its June stagnation. Professions, administrative, and complementary services rose 0.6%, offsetting a previous decline. Other service groups grew by 0.7% and 0.5% respectively. In contrast, information and communication activities contracted by 2.5%. For the quarterly index adjusted for seasonality, the aggregate volume remained stable at 0.0% when comparing the quarter ending July 2026 to the prior period.
