President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced September 7 as the day of Brazilian independence and emphasized that this year's presidential vote determines whether the nation rises to protect itself or becomes small for other countries. On social media X, he posted this message alongside a campaign video featuring narrator Flávio Bolsonaro, candidate for president by the PL party. The video alternated images of Bolsonaro with statements claiming U.S. tariffs will arrive in Brazil and noting conditions where Brazil cannot demand anything from President Trump's government. The video also included ex-federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro suggesting Brazil might bring the Pix payment system to US negotiation tables. Lula's accompanying comments stated that anyone choosing this side is a traitor to the motherland. He declared the Pix system belongs to Brazil, is public and free, and no one should fear anything. He added that the country will not bow its head and asked voters which type of nation they desire.
