Petrobras finds Amazon oil with API degree between 35 and 40

Samples collected from Petrobras' Morpho well in Amapá indicate a crude oil API degree ranging from 35 to 40. Industry sources confirm these figures represent the current state of the samples, which are being analyzed at Cenpes in Rio de Janeiro. The material traveled over 2,000 kilometers by sea for testing. A higher API number signifies lighter density and generally greater commercial value for refineries due to lower processing requirements. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva visited the Amapá site last month and noted the oil's light appearance. He described the prospects as promising and suggested the crude is 'already refined' enough to be considered high-quality, using the phrase 'petróleo chique'. Petrobras has not yet finalized its characterization of the oil, with final results expected within weeks.
