Belgian WAD Capital raises €67.5 million in debut fund with EIF backing
WAD Capital finalized its first fund raise at €67.5 million following a €25 million investment from the European Investment Fund (EIF). The Ghent-based firm aims to scale this capital up to €130 million.
Belgian investment firm WAD Capital completed the initial closing of its debut fund at €67.5 million. The transaction included a €25 million contribution from the European Investment Fund (EIF), establishing Brussels as the largest backer of the scheme's first round. Robert de Groot, Vice President of the EIB Group, noted that Europe hosts numerous successful small and medium-sized enterprises requiring capital and talent for growth. WAD Capital intends to utilize this funding to expand its debut fund from €67.5 million toward a €130 million target. Founded in 2023 by Christopher Tournis Gamble, Steven Coppens, and Alain Brossé, the organization focuses on acquiring small and mid-sized European firms facing succession issues. Their target profile includes profitable businesses with EBITDA between €1 million and €5 million located in the Benelux region, northern France, and western Germany. Sectors such as healthcare, energy, climate transition, and business services represent primary acquisition targets.
