$90 million in August for Epicrispr Biotechnologies

Stanley Druckenmiller's family office led a $90 million investment round for a gene therapy startup. Ultra-wealthy investors drove biotech activity with 52 deals last month.

Family offices backed 52 private companies in August, with biotechnology accounting for roughly 20% of those transactions. Data from Fintrx shows these firms are key drivers of the current venture capital rebound. Stanley Druckenmiller's Duquesne Family Office participated in a $90 million Series C round for Epicrispr Biotechnologies last month. The startup, which opened eight years ago, develops gene therapy for facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy. Druckenmiller stated in January that artificial intelligence represents the best application case for his investments in biotech and life sciences. He attributed this focus to his long-term role on the board of Memorial Sloan Kettering. The investment firm has supported at least four pharmaceutical or life sciences companies during the year. Fintrx provided the transaction figures exclusively to news outlets.
