US officials accuse China of providing satellite images for Iran attack on Jordan base killing three US soldiers
Unidentified US officials claim Chinese entities supplied imagery before an airstrike in Jordan that killed three American troops. Chinese authorities deny involvement and refused to acknowledge the transfer of data.
US officials stated that unnamed Chinese entities delivered satellite images showing a base in Jordan before and after July 17, when Iran struck the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base housing US forces. Three US Army soldiers were killed in the attack on the unnamed facility. The officials noted they raised this issue with Beijing counterparts without naming specific Chinese firms. Chinese representatives asked for proof of the imagery transfer but refused to admit to providing Tehran with such images. Washington previously sanctioned three China-based satellite companies and warned Beijing against selling weapons to Iran. This incident may resurface during US President Donald Trump's planned September 24 welcome of Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House. The US Central Command also reported blocking 100 commercial vessels in the past 60 days within its blockade targeting Iranian ports and the Strait of Hormuz.
