Abia State Governor seeks $50 million to expand power infrastructure
Governor Alex Otti aims to reduce reliance on the national grid by funding capacity expansion from Aba to Umuahia.
Abia State is seeking approximately $50 million to upgrade its power infrastructure and lower dependence on the national grid. Governor Alex Otti revealed these plans during the Nigerian British Chamber of Commerce's 2026 Meet the Governor Series in Lagos. The state intends to extend its power projects beyond Aba to cover all eight remaining local government areas, including Umuahia. Funding will support facility acquisition and generation capacity improvements. Governor Otti stated that state authorities are nearly finished taking control of the sector and plans to acquire a bank board's support immediately. His objective is for the Geometric Project to expand its operational capacity from Aba into Umuahia using this capital.
