Ukraine's GDP Could Slip 1.5 Points in 2026 Amid $10 Billion in Destroyed Infrastructure
Kyiv officials warn that intensified Russian strikes are crippling the economy, forecasting a 1.5 percentage point GDP decline for 2026 and estimating total asset destruction near $10 billion.
Kyiv officials state Ukraine's economy is being severely hampered by Russian missile and drone attacks targeting energy, steel, rail, and grain sectors. Prime Minister Sergiy Koretsky describes the situation as the most difficult since the war began, noting daily destruction of critical infrastructure. The strikes are restricting Black Sea grain exports, which remain a vital revenue stream. Economy Minister Oleksandr Kravchenko estimates total destruction of infrastructure and assets will reach close to $10 billion this year. He predicts these combined with port blockades will reduce national GDP by 1.5 points in 2026. Western experts have characterized the current conditions as catastrophic, while Koretsky warns of a very difficult winter ahead for both essential services and overall economic conditions.
