Crypto Billionaires Total $97 Million for Reform UK, Largest Gift in British History
Christopher Harborne and Ben Delo combined donations of £36 million and £9 million respectively. This brings their total contribution to $49 million from Harborne plus previous funds from the two figures.
British political party Reform UK has received a record contribution totaling approximately $49 million ($36 million in pounds) from Thai businessman Christopher Harborne, reported as the largest single gift in British political history. The donation is intended to support the party's preparations for potential government formation. Harborne, writing in the Daily Telegraph, stated the gift was philanthropic and aimed at helping Reform UK turn around Britain's decline. Earlier this month, crypto industry figures George Cottrell and Ben Delo also contributed millions to the same party. Delo co-founded the BitMEX exchange and gave $49 million in total over time to support a fair electoral contest. Farage stated he was honored by their confidence in Reform UK as the only party capable of reversing Britain's decline. Former lawmaker Nigel Farage resigned from Parliament in July amid an investigation into crypto donations, triggering a controversial by-election that he won with 63 percent of the vote. The influx of digital asset contributions has sparked debate regarding the influence of such donors on British politics, with some lawmakers considering permanent restrictions on these types of gifts.
