Lebanon and Israel to Resume Direct Talks in October

Negotiators from Lebanon and Israel will meet directly next month, following a recent delay in previously scheduled discussions.

Officials confirmed that Lebanon and Israel will hold a new round of direct negotiations in October. US mediators plan to facilitate these talks in Rome. Negotiators were expected to meet earlier this month but the meeting was postponed without explanation. In addition, Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors met in Washington last week to discuss ongoing developments and the implementation of the June framework agreement. The two nations have conducted seven rounds of direct talks in Washington and Rome recently to reduce fighting between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, a group based in Lebanon. On Saturday, President Lebanon made a rare visit to a southern city near where Israel captured a strategic hill.
