Wipro AI initiatives boost productivity equivalent to 20,000 employees
Wipro's chief technology officer claims its artificial intelligence push has generated output matching a workforce of 20,000 staff members. The company is actively redeploying these redundant workers into new roles or training them.
Sandhya Arun, the chief technology officer at Wipro, stated that recent AI implementations have increased productivity to levels equivalent to 20,000 employees. Consequently, the firm has redeployed this volume of human staff within its Indian operations. This development occurs as India's $315 billion software services sector navigates rapid AI integration, which is altering hiring practices and contract structures.
Wipro employs approximately 243,000 people globally. Under its new 'human-AI operating model,' more than 100,000 staff members are undergoing advanced AI training to obtain certifications. Arun explained that a single engineer might manage multiple AI agents, which could be deployed on different projects or used for upskilling other employees. She emphasized that this approach does not necessarily result in the direct person-to-person replacement of human agents.
These observations align with views from Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji and industry peers like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). TCS previously announced plans to create a team of 8,900 forward-deployed engineers over the next few years. Infosys intends to add about 6,000 similar employees during that period. Both firms aim to embed these specialists with clients to accelerate artificial intelligence adoption across their portfolios.
