Solvay plans to double Taiwan chip chemical production by 2026

Belgian chemical manufacturer Solvay is set to more than double its production capacity in Taiwan for high-purity materials used in chipmaking. The company's CEO, Philippe Kehren, told Nikkei Asia in Taipei on September 3 that this expansion targets the surging demand driven by artificial intelligence hardware development. This move reflects a broader industry trend where customers prioritize localized supply chains to ensure security and continuity of critical components. Solvay's facility in Taiwan will focus specifically on chemicals required for the fabrication of silicon wafers, which are essential inputs for semiconductor manufacturers. The decision to localize this portion of its production capacity was communicated directly by company leadership during an interview with the financial newspaper.
