On July 22, Gerard Maley, deputy chief minister of the Northern Territory and its energy minister, announced an agreement granting Beetaloo Digital exclusive rights to develop a hyperscale data center on government land. The project requires $40 billion and covers 185 hectares of territory designated as gas exploration land. Mr. Maley stated that this deal represents a major opportunity for the region's commercial prospects backed by its natural gas industry. Beetaloo Energy confirmed through a statement that Bethaney Maley, Gerard's sister-in-law and former public relations expert, holds a strategic engagement position at Beetaloo Digital. While Beetaloo Digital secured initial rights to seek investors, the so-called 'do not deal' agreement leaves project viability open for further determination. In response to questions regarding this familial link, Mr. Maley indicated that he has made all necessary declarations under the Ministerial Code of Conduct. A spokesperson clarified that specific details on the declaration's standard process remain undisclosed by his office.
