KPMG sues expelled former executive Eileen Hoggett for whistleblower scandal
Former KPMG chief operating officer Eileen Hoggett has filed a lawsuit against the firm following her July expulsion over alleged misuse of confidential client documents.
Eileen Hoggett, the former chief operating officer of KPMG, is suing the firm after being dismissed in July for what she claims was an improper dismissal. The New South Wales Supreme Court confirmed that a summons has been lodged in her name, with the first hearing scheduled for September 23. Hoggett was expelled following allegations by a whistleblower that confidential client data, including sensitive Lendlease board documents, were accessed and used to secure new business. The documents were reportedly stored in a work locker belonging to Hoggett herself. New Chief Executive Officer John Sams ordered her immediate removal after she initially denied the documents were kept in the locker. When the expulsion was announced, Sams stated the conduct was totally unacceptable. Hoggett has said previously that she received a hefty financial penalty as part of the expulsion process. Legal proceedings are now underway, with employment law specialist Bryan Belling representing Hoggett at the Sydney court. No specific details regarding the claimed damages or the outcome of the internal investigation have been disclosed publicly yet.
