Ghana Finance Minister Announces Cabinet Push for New Resilient Macroeconomic Policy
Dr Cassiel Ato Forson stated the new policy addresses governance and capitalization gaps observed between 2017 and 2019.
The Government of Ghana is at the final stage of seeking Cabinet approval to introduce a new macroeconomic policy designed to strengthen its financial sector. Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson announced the initiative during the 16th Annual General Meeting of the Ghana Association of Savings and Loans Companies (GHALSAC) in Accra. He noted the reforms were directly informed by the financial sector challenges faced from 2017 through 2019, which exposed weaknesses in governance, capitalization, supervision, and risk management. Dr Forson argued that sustainable growth requires strong regulatory foundations including adequate capital levels and effective oversight. The proposed policy aims to improve resilience against future economic shocks while promoting deeper financial inclusion across the nation. Approval from the Cabinet remains pending before implementation can proceed.
