National Stock Exchange IPO launches on September 17 after ten-year wait
India's largest stock exchange is finally offering its shares to the public following a decade of regulatory delays.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) announced an initial public offering for public investors set for September 17. Listing dates are expected on September 25. The move concludes a process that began in 2016 but was repeatedly delayed by legal challenges and regulatory investigations. A primary obstacle was the co-location controversy, involving allegations of preferential access to trading servers. In 2019, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) ordered NSE to pay Rs 624.89 crore in disgorgement. The exchange contested these findings, leading to appeals before the Securities Appellate Tribunal and the Supreme Court. These proceedings caused significant interruptions. Despite the lengthy legal battle, regulators eventually allowed the offering to proceed.
