Premium Cachaça Sales Reach Three Times Vodka Volume in Brazil
Brazilian cane spirit sales hit 3x the volume of vodka while overall distillate sales fell 6.6% YTD Jan-July 2026, as consumers shift toward higher quality.
Premium shelf cachaça is gaining significant market share in Brazil, selling three times more than vodka according to retail data from Scanntech. Overall consumption of sugar cane spirits continues to decline due to health concerns, with volume down 6.6% from January to July compared to the same period in 2025. Scanntech executive Felipe Passarelli explained that while total sales dropped, mainstream and premium segments are capturing a larger portion of remaining demand. The vodka segment suffered a steeper decline than cachaça, which is described as transcending cultural and generational boundaries. This trend indicates buyers are becoming more selective despite reduced consumption levels.
