Tanzania plans to build AI data centers with foreign partners, Minister says
The Tanzanian government is assessing infrastructure needs to establish AI data centers as part of a broader digital transformation strategy. Officials are seeking international partnerships to support this development.
Angela Kairuki, the Minister for Communication and Information Technology in Tanzania, stated that the nation intends to construct artificial intelligence data centers. She emphasized that the country possesses clean electricity and adequate water supplies, which she identified as critical requirements for such facilities. According to her interview at the 2026 Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation Ministerial Conference in Seoul, these projects represent a key component of efforts to prepare the economy for growing AI adoption across major sectors. Kairuki noted that the government is currently evaluating the necessary infrastructure and expressed intent to secure international partnerships regarding funding, skills training, and technological development. The four-day conference concluded today with leaders from Africa and South Korea focusing on digital infrastructure expansion.
