Volkswagen plans to cut 50,000 jobs and shut four German plants at €16 billion cost
Volkswagen estimates a total restructuring cost of €16 billion as it implements a massive workforce reduction and facility closures.
Volkswagen stated that its comprehensive restructuring plan will cost approximately €16 billion. The company intends to eliminate about 50,000 additional jobs globally beyond previous projections. The strategy involves the gradual closure of production at four German factories: Emden, Zwickau, Neckarsulm, and Hanover. Sources indicated the shutdown of Emden and Zwickau will each incur costs around €1 billion, while Neckarsulm and Hanover will cost roughly €2 billion each. The company also allocated approximately €10 billion to cover expenses related to cutting up to 60,000 positions worldwide. The plan was approved last week as part of a historic restructuring agreement aimed at surviving against Chinese competition and high tariffs.
