IMF predicts 3% global economic growth in 2026 despite high risks
The International Monetary Fund expects worldwide economic output to rise by 3% in 2026, though it warns that energy and debt pressures remain severe.
The International Monetary Fund stated on Thursday that the global economy has resisted better than anticipated amid energy shocks linked to the war in the Middle East. IMF spokesperson Julie Kozack indicated that worldwide economic production should still grow by approximately 3% in 2026, though she emphasized that risks remain elevated. Kozack noted that oil and gas prices continue to stay high and that the energy shock caused by the conflict has not ended. She also highlighted rising global debt pressures and a stagnation in the post-2022 cost-of-living crisis deflation process. While inflation expectations globally have increased, they remain firmly anchored in the long term according to the fund's representative.
