Tesla launches Cybercab robotaxi showcase in Beijing and Shanghai starting mid-September
Tesla is displaying its wheel-less Cybercab in Beijing and Shanghai from mid-September, though the company confirmed sales are not yet planned for the region.
Tesla plans to exhibit its new self-driving vehicle, the Cybercab, in major Chinese cities including Beijing and Shanghai starting mid-September. The two-seat model features no steering wheel, pedals, or rear-view mirrors. It began mass production at Tesla's Texas Gigafactory in April. Tesla China stated the exhibition focuses on product design and technology but clarified that cars are not for sale there soon, nor will the robotaxi service operate locally anytime soon. Industry observers believe the tour will boost brand visibility. Steve Shi, a manager at Juchen Auto Trade, said it would convince visitors Tesla remains a global leader in autonomous driving despite facing stiff competition. Tesla is facing weaker sales in China this year while managing the promotional event.
