Saudi non-oil GDP growth reaches 0.9% in Q2, rising amid overall contraction
Non-oil sectors expanded by 0.9% in the second quarter of 2026 while real gross domestic product fell 4.7% due to oil sector declines.
Saudi Arabia's non-oil activities expanded 0.9 percent year on year during the second quarter of 2026, according to data from the General Authority for Statistics. Real gross domestic output declined by 4.7 percent in the same period. Government and non-oil sectors both grew at an annual rate of 0.9 percent while oil activities contracted by 24.8 percent. The sectoral breakdown indicates that oil contributed negatively to real GDP by 5.4 percentage points whereas non-oil output added 0.6 percentage points. Government activities and net taxes on products each contributed 0.1 percentage points positively. These figures reflect economic diversification efforts despite the ongoing disruption to oil markets from conflict in the Strait of Hormuz. Ship traffic through the strait dropped to an average of 10 commodity vessels daily in early September, down from approximately 130 to 140 ships before the fighting began.
