Nubank launches US banking operations at Nu Stadium
Brazilian fintech Nubank began US operations on Friday, 10, offering FDIC-insured deposit accounts at the nu bank. Global CEO David Vélez stated the company aims to expand its model further this decade.
Nubank formally started banking operations in the United States on Friday, October 10. The fintech firm offers a new deposit account held by Lead Bank, an institution insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. This move marks a key part of the company's long-term international expansion strategy. Founder and global CEO David Vélez confirmed during the announcement that Nubank intends to build and deploy its banking model across the US and beyond over the coming decade. The event took place at the Nu Stadium, home of Inter Miami FC, which holds naming rights with the fintech. Earlier this year, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency granted Nubank conditional approval to establish a national bank in the country. However, final authorization still requires clearance from the Federal Reserve and other regulatory bodies. Industry expectations suggest this remaining step will be finalized by next year.
