FGTS Council approves 13 billion BRL subsidy budget for 2026
The FGTS Guardian Council voted to increase the subsidy portion of its 2026 budget by R$ 500 million, raising it from R$ 12.5 billion to R$ 13 billion. The agency expects this to benefit over 376,000 families through housing and sanitation projects.
The Guardian Council of the Fundo de Garantia do Tempo de Serviço (FGTS) approved on Thursday a budget increase for its subsidy program in 2026. The total allocation for subsidies rose from R$ 12.5 billion to R$ 13 billion, an addition of R$ 500 million. While the specific line items for sanitation, housing, and infrastructure remained unchanged, the overall budget under management by the Ministry of Cities is now R$ 169 billion. Approximately 56% of the total has already been contracted, totaling R$ 90.642 billion. As of mid-August, contracts worth R$ 7.571 billion covered this specific subsidy category, representing about 61% of the newly adjusted total. In July alone, R$ 1.07 billion in subsidy contracts were signed. Council members noted an expected growth in the number of people requiring assistance to justify the expansion. Officials project the year will see contracts reach R$ 12.64 billion, aiming to provide discounts for more than 376,000 families.
