James Mworia appointed as inaugural CEO of Kenya's National Infrastructure Fund on September 7, 2026

Kenya's National Infrastructure Fund (NIF) named James Mworia as its first Chief Executive Officer, with the board announcing immediate goals to organize operations and attract capital. The fund aims to mobilize KSh5 trillion for infrastructure projects over the next decade.

James Mworia has been appointed as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of Kenya's National Infrastructure Fund (NIF), taking up the position on September 7, 2026. The Board stated his key priorities include establishing the fund's organization and workforce, developing its culture, mobilizing co-investment capital, and building a pipeline of infrastructure projects. Mworia succeeded a competitive recruitment process. He is part of six board members appointed by Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi in July. The National Assembly approved the NIF's establishment in March 2026. The fund plans to mobilize nearly KSh5 trillion over ten years to finance projects including highways, railways, ports, agribusiness infrastructure, and energy systems. It intends to use public and private sector financing, utilizing government allocations, private investment, privatization proceeds, and grants.
