Israeli military orders evacuation in Deir al-Zahrani ahead of strike on Hezbollah facility, killing seven
Israel warned residents to leave immediately as planned military strikes on a southern Lebanon target began.
The Israeli military ordered an evacuation in Deir al-Zahrani, southern Lebanon, Monday. Spokesperson Ella Waweya told residents inside marked buildings to move at least 300 meters away immediately. She stated the site was near a Hezbollah facility the army intended to target and that staying put puts people in danger. Earlier on Sunday, Israeli strikes across southern Lebanon killed at least seven people, including two women, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry. Six others were wounded. Israel described those attacks as retaliation for Hezbollah drones fired at its forces. On Monday, the military accused Hezbollah of a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement, saying an explosive drone was launched toward army positions. This triggered the evacuation warning and forceful military action. The clashes are deepening cracks in a fragile truce that has failed to stop near-daily exchanges of fire.
