Four US firms commit $2 billion to South Korea semiconductor and energy projects
South Korean officials announced a $2 billion investment pledge from four American companies in industries ranging from semiconductors to renewable energy.
South Korea's Industry Ministry confirmed on Friday that four United States-based corporations have agreed to invest a combined total of $2 billion in the country. The commitments cover semiconductor technology, advanced materials, and renewable energy sectors. Air Products intends to expand its manufacturing facilities for semiconductor gases and rare gases at a site in Pyeongtaek. Axcelis Technologies plans to increase production capacity for ion implantation systems used in chip fabrication. Corning will focus on developing advanced glass materials essential for display panels and semiconductors. Pacifico Energy is advancing a 3.2-gigawatt offshore wind project located in southwestern South Korea, which aims to support the growth of a new semiconductor cluster in the region. The industrial gases supplier, chip equipment maker, materials company, and renewable energy developer made these pledges during an event held by Kim Jung-kwan in Washington. This collaboration comes as Seoul and Washington seek to deepen cooperation in strategic technology and energy sectors while South Korea aims to attract more foreign capital into key manufacturing industries.
