Caixa initiates nationwide strike after workers reject labor contract renewal proposal
Employees at Caixa Econômica Federal and partial staff at Banco do Brasil went on strike on May 10 following the rejection of collective bargaining agreements.
Workers at the Caixa Econômica Federal launched a nationwide strike on Thursday, May 10. The action follows the rejection of their proposal to renew the indefinite-term collective labor agreement (ACT) by employee assemblies across the country. More than 90% of assembly votes rejected the offer, according to union representatives who noted dissatisfaction regarding the inclusion of Health Caixa services in the initial terms.
In contrast, a partial shutdown affected Banco do Brasil branches where local unions did not approve their respective agreements, specifically impacting regions like Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Pernambuco, and Florianópolis.
Both institutions confirmed that digital channels remained fully operational. Caixa employees were directed to use the App, Internet Banking, WhatsApp, and other digital tools instead of physical counters. The bank also maintained access via ATM networks, retail centers, and phone support. Caixinha officials stated they had reopened negotiation tables for a morning session on Thursday with union representatives to seek new understandings.
The Banco do Brasil group highlighted its participation in negotiations led by the National Banking Federation (Fenaban) alongside these labor disputes.
