Alternative fuel cars outsell gasoline models in India for the first time in August

Combined sales of alternative fuel passenger vehicles outpaced gasoline variants for the first time in August 2026, according to data released by an industry body. Battery electric vehicles accounted for 7.6% of total car sales in August 2026. This figure represents a 0.3 percentage point decline from July 2026 but remains up compared to 5.8% recorded in August 2025.
