Algeria terminates diplomatic relations with UAE following exhausted negotiations
Algeria has formally ended diplomatic ties with the United Arab Emirates after stating that all attempts to repair bilateral relations have failed.
On Thursday, Algerian state television announced the termination of diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates. Authorities stated this decision follows the exhaustion of every available avenue to maintain ties between the two nations. The move marks a decisive escalation in a dispute affecting political and transport linkages between Algeria and Abu Dhabi. Prior to the final announcement, Algeria initiated procedures to cancel a bilateral air services agreement signed in 2013. This administrative step signaled prior deterioration in official connections impacting travel and aviation frameworks. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune utilized pointed language regarding interference by an unnamed Gulf state in Algeria's internal affairs. While he did not publicly name the country causing friction, reports widely interpreted his remarks as targeting the UAE. The President specifically distinguished this dispute from ongoing tensions with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar. Algerian officials maintained that the issue concerns interference rather than a collective rift with all Gulf Arab nations. At the time of the report, the UAE Foreign Ministry had not issued a public response to the decision.
