AIIB plans to quadruple private capital for Asian infrastructure
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank aims to increase its mobilized private capital for Asia by roughly four times through a new platform.
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is developing a new mechanism intended to pool capital from institutional investors, with the goal of quadrupling the private capital it currently mobilizes for infrastructure projects across Asia. Kim-See Lim, the bank's chief investment officer, described the initiative as being at an early stage, noting that further details are expected within six to nine months. The new platform would allow insurers, pension funds, and other institutional investors to co-invest in infrastructure debt alongside the bank on a programmatic basis rather than negotiating deals individually across its 111 member countries. Since its inception through the end of 2025, the Beijing-based multilateral bank has mobilized around US$17.5 billion in private capital directly and indirectly. Lim stated that this scale needs to grow much faster through the new platform. The bank aims to reach out to like-minded investors to establish common terms for treating infrastructure as an investable asset class together.
